Monitor Audio Silver 100 7G speaker produces sound with a balanced tone. It has rich highs, clear mids and punchier lows. An 8” woofer driver can deliver tighter bass for medium to large sized spaces. The speakers play sound with certain depth, have powerful sound field and can get quite loud. Since it is compact in size, it will easily blend into tight spaces.

Our Verdict

Monitor Audio Silver 100 7G is a two-way bass-reflex speaker that can produce rich, warm, and detailed sound with extreme clarity in the mid-section. These speakers bring music back to life. You can also watch movies but for that we suggest at least a 3.1 setup. It is ideal for users who do not have any budget limitations. Details Review

Design:

The outer surface has a real wood veneer finish, and we love the brown color that gives a classic vibe. It comes with rubber stopper feet. It has a bolt through driver-fixing design that eliminates any coloration. This design will enhance the midband clarity and is responsible for resonance-free cabinet. The cabinet has good bracing resulting in rigid structure and body. 20mm MDF body ensures rigidity and uncolored sound while being durable. A magnetic clothe grille is available for the speaker.

Performance:

Monitor Audio claims the Silver 100 7G can outperform an older floorstanding speaker. So, let’s find out more about it. It has 1” gold dome tweeter and 8” woofer. The tweeter has (Ceramic-Coated Aluminum/Magnesium) diaphragm that is lightweight and rigid. It is designed to improve power handling and damping of the tweeter. This results in well-defined highs with greater accuracy. It has Uniform Dispersion waveguide that flattens the highs, improves directivity, and make it non-fatiguing.

It is suggested to run-in the speakers for 50-70 hours so that they can play at full potential. It has C-CAM RST II woofer that ensure more speed and accuracy both in mid-bass and bass region. With high-quality crossover, the transition between tweeter and woofer is smooth. This results in pure and natural sounding audio. The speaker has HiVe II Bass port on the back side that ensures improved efficiency and boosted low ends. With a max SPL of 106dB, the speakers can get quite loud.

Speaker placement:

When you use the Silver 100 7G as front speakers, create an equilateral triangle with the user. Keep a gap of 6-10’ between them. Leave a distance of 3 ft from side walls and 8-16” from rear walls. In case you feel the bass is weak, move the speakers closer to the walls. For good stereo image, toe-in and perform multiple trial and error. If you think the bass is ‘too much’ for the room, use port bungs to seal the rear port. Or increase the distance between speaker and rear wall.

Use case:

The Silver 100 7G is best for medium-sized rooms and will also work fine in large spaces.

Connectivity and control:

Monitor Audio Silver 100 7G needs to be connected to an amplifier or AV receiver. The manual shows a detailed connection diagram with images. The speaker also supports bi-wiring and bi-amping connection. Once you choose an amp, connect other audio sources like TV, PC, Laptop, CD player, Blu ray player, turntable, etc to the speaker via the amp.

Compatible device:

You can pair one from our amplifier list: Primare amp, Audiolab 8300A, etc. Some other popular amp/receiver brands are: Marantz, Yamaha, Denon, Sony, etc.

Upgrade to a home theater by pairing from the following Monitor Audio speakers: floorstanding loudspeakers (500 7G / 300 7G / 200 7G), bookshelf loudspeakers (50 7G), center-channel speaker (C250 7G), a surround speaker (FX 7G), and a Dolby Atmos enabled speaker (AMS 7G). Lastly pair a powered subwoofer. It can be from Monitor Audio or other brands like SVS.

Cost:

The Silver 100 7G is not the cheapest bookshelf speaker out there. It is an expensive speaker and as you go on and buy an amplifier, subwoofer, the total cost will also increase.

FAQ:

Should I perform bi-wiring or bi-amping with Silver 100 7G?

Bi-wiring needs two wires connected to a single amplifier. Bi amp will need two different amplifiers. So, bi-wiring is an affordable option. Bi-Wiring in the speaker will show visible changes. That said, it might vary with user preferences.

Will I need a subwoofer with Monitor Audio Silver 100 7G in mid-sized spaces?

For medium sized rooms, you will not need any additional subwoofer as the 8” woofer driver is large enough to produce an adequate amount of bass.
