Dali Oberon 1 passive speaker is great for tight spaces. They can produce smoother highs, deep lows and overall performance is satisfying. Mids are accurate as well. They can deliver clean and clear sound. Music is handled well but an additional subwoofer will please bass lovers. For movies, it is better to build a home theater like 3.1 or 5.1. We listened to them for long hours without any ear fatigue.

Details Review

The Oberon 1 is a compact speaker that has an MDF body. It uses bracing to eliminate cabinet resonance and vibration resulting in purer sound. It uses acoustic damping to ensure low ends are accurate. Use rubber feet to improve stability. If you have pets or kids at home, use the included grille. The build quality is good, and design is decent. Choose one from four different color options.

Dali Oberon 1 comes with 1” tweeter and 5.25” woofer driver. It has the same tweeter as used in the Oberon 3 model. The tweeter is very light and is a bit larger than other tweeters. This driver will deliver sound in a broader direction and ensure rich highs. It will also minimize coloration or distortion. It uses Ferro-fluid cooling for better power handling and a soft felt damping material will minimize any reflections.

The woofer driver is the same as well. It is driven by SMC to minimize distortion. It features a wood fiber material that produces good mids and deep bass. Low ends from 5.25” woofer will not be room shaking. The bass is even, clean, and tight. If you prefer more bass, go for an additional subwoofer via amplifier. These speakers have wide and accurate soundstage.

Place the speakers 0.4” to 20” from the back wall. Elevate them at ear level by placing on stands on shelves. It is designed so that you can wall mount them. It comes with a keyhole on the pack panel. Use rubber bummers to block the rear port. So, although it has a rear port, the speaker is versatile and flexible to use. It does not support bi-wiring or bi-amping but the standard connection works just fine.

Connectivity and control:

Since the Oberon 1 is a passive speaker, you need to pair a matching amplifier or AV receiver. Then connect other sources like TV, turntable, PC, CD player, etc with the amplifier. Connect the speakers with the amplifier and keep on listening.

Use case:

Dali Oberon 1 is great for small to mid sized rooms. If you have a large room, use these as a part of home theater and not as standalone speakers. For medium sized room, pair a subwoofer if you are a bass head.

Compatible devices:

Match the impedance and power range specs of the Oberon 1 to find a suitable amplifier. Some popular amplifier/receiver brands are: Cambridge Audio, Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, Sony, Onkyo, etc.

If you want to upgrade to a home theater, check the following speakers from Dali Oberon series: floorstanding loudspeakers (OBERON 5/7/9), bookshelf loudspeakers (OBERON 1), center-channel speaker (OBERON Vokal), and on-wall speaker (OBERON On-Wall). Pair a powered subwoofer from Oberon or from any other brands like SVS, etc.

You will find cheap bookshelf speakers, but Dali Oberon 1 is a bit costly at this size.

Dali Oberon 1 vs Oberon 3, which is better?

The Oberon 3 is bigger than the Dali Oberon 1. It also has a larger woofer driver and can get as low as 47Hz. Driver material and engineering are similar. The Oberon 3 is costlier as well but sounds better than the Oberon 1. It can also be used in large spaces and is perfect for medium sized rooms without any additional subwoofer.

Who is Dali Oberon 1 for?

If you have tight spaces and seek a small and compact bookshelf speaker, then Dali Oberon 1 is for you. It is also available at an affordable price although not the cheapest one on the market.
