Marantz AV7702 Preamp with Dolby Atmos

Marantz is releasing a major upgrade to their AV7701 preamplifier. The Marantz AV7702 preamp is their first multichannel A/V preamplifier with Dolby Atmos. That’s only the beginning, however. Like the newest batch of Marantz AV receivers, the new preamp includes built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The AV7702 will retail for $1,999 and will ship this month (October, 2014). Like its predecessor, the new AV7702 comes with the latest current feedback topology as well as Marantz’s high-definition HDAMs. With built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, however, you can now feed all of your Internet Radio, Spotify Connect, Pandora, SiriusXM, and AirPlay tunes as well. Using the DLNA network streaming, the AV7702 can also play music files stored on a PC or external storage unit. In fact, you can play almost any file imaginable, including MP3, WMA, FLAC HD, ALAC, WAV192/24 & AAC. For concerts, classical records and…Pink Floyd…the AV7702 allows for gapless playback, so your DSD and AIFF files are also supported. Lastly, there’s an iPod digital-compatible USB input and even a Phono MM input for vinyl fans.

Video wasn’t ignored either, and the AV702 comes with advanced video processing, supporting the latest HDMI standard with 4k 60Hz pass-through and giving you 8 HDMI inputs and 3 outputs (two zones and one parallel output for the main zone). The AV7702 will also upscale all standard and HD video all the way to 4K.

With four DSP (Digital Sound Processing) engines, the AV7702 can handle 11.2 channels—all while supporting Audyssey DSX, DTS Neo:X 11.1, and the latest Dolby Atmos surround technology (The AV7702 can run Atmos in 7, 9, or 11 channel configurations, using 5.1.2, 5.1.4, 7.1.2, 7.1.4 or 9.1.2 setups with either ceiling mounted, or Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers.)

Editorial Note: Dolby Atmos Speaker Configurations
A 5.1.2 or 5.1.4 speaker configuration is based upon a traditional 5.1 speaker layout complemented by 2 or 4 overhead, or Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers. A 7.1.2 or 7.1.4 configuration is based on a 7.1 speaker layout with 4 overhead, or Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers. A 9.1.2 configuration is based on a 9.1 speaker layout with 2 overhead speakers.

In terms of expandability, the AV7702 has a full 13.2 channel pre-out with 11.2 channel XLR outputs and 13.2 channels of unbalanced RCA. The Audyssey MultEQ XT32 (Pro ready) room correction suite is included (their most advanced system) so you can accurately calibrate the speakers in the room (all 15 of them if you max it out!) to ensure every seat in the room is a good seat. That DSP suite includes Audyssey LFC (Low Frequency Containment) for reducing the transmission of low frequency sound through walls and Audyssey Sub EQ HT for perfectly integrating two subwoofers in your home theater setup—something we heartily recommend.
